TUESDAY 17 SEPTEMBER: the beef breeds events

The Limousin breed is back in the spotlight this year, with a National Challenge. It is the leading beef breed in several major French regions, including Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitanie and Brittany. Its global appeal as an export is equally impressive, being utilised in over 80 countries worldwide, either in purebred or crossbred form, owing to its inherent adaptability to diverse climates. 

This breed will take centre stage in the ring starting at 1 pm. Nearly 70 animals will be competing. Following on from the competition, Limousin breeding stock will be auctioned.

Before that, between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm, five beef breeds will be competing in an interregional competition or shown in the ring. 

To close out the day, a suckler beef cow auction will be held. Every suckler breed exhibited at SPACE will be represented at this auction.

WEDNESDAY 18 SEPTEMBER: interregional competitions and a high quality multi-breed auction

Interregional competitions will be held on Wednesday with the Normande, Simmental, Montbéliard, Pie Rouge and Brown Swiss breeds. 

The Génomic Élite sale is scheduled for Wednesday 18 September at 5:00 pm. As the leading auction of its kind in France and Europe, this unique event has generated welldeserved excitement. 

Once again, the seven dairy and dual-purpose breeds will be featured: Jersey, Holstein, Normande, Pie Rouge, Brown Swiss, Montbéliard, and Simmental. This event showcases the exceptional quality and diversity of French livestock, with at least one heifer from each breed on display at the Expo. 

The parade of heifers and the final auction will take place in the ring on Wednesday at 5:00 pm. The auction website will be available starting Thursday September 12, for viewing  the catalogue and placing initial bids.

Race Prim'Holstein à l'honneur au SPACE 2024

THURSDAY 19 September: Prim'Holstein France Challenge and the Multi-Breed Dairy Supreme Championship

After 2010, 2012 and 2018, Prim'Holstein is back as the featured dairy breed at SPACE with its France Challenge! 
Co-organised with the Prim’Holstein Atlantique Association, which includes regional breed associations from Brittany, Normandy, Pays de la Loire, Centre and
Poitou-Charentes, the event will showcase the top 200 animals of the breed, carefully selected. To properly celebrate the Prim’Holstein breed, breeders from other major French livestock regions are invited to participate in this key event: Haut-de-France, Grand-Est, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitanie and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Yan Jacobs, a dedicated and experienced dairy farmer from Quebec, has been appointed as the judge to oversee this event. He has judged several important breed events, including multiple National Shows in the USA, the UK National Dairy Show, and the Swiss National Show in Bulle.

Additionally, the interregional Jersey breed competition will take place on Thursday.

The Interbreed Dairy Championship will close out the day, when the seven dairy grand champions will return to the ring to compete for the title of SPACE 2024 Supreme  Champion. Which breed will win the title following the Jersey in 2021, the Normande in 2022 and the Prim’Holstein en 2023?

A continuous show in Halls 1 and 1B

The animal exhibitions at SPACE will be ongoing throughout the three days of the Expo. Alongside Hall 1 for cattle, Hall 1B, increasingly popular among international visitors, will host exhibits of 12 sheep and goat breeds. Three sheep breeds will participate in exciting competitions: the Rouge de l'Ouest, Suffolk and Mouton Vendéen breeds.

All the animals participating will be selected bythe committees throughout the summer. Having an animal selected for SPACE is a great source of pride for livestock farmers.

Judging a competition at SPACE is a dream come true for me, and so exciting! SPACE consistently maintains exceptionally high standards. The competitions showcase the farmers, the organizers, the selectors, the presenters, and  everyone involved in the dairy farming industry.
